About Side

Situated on a peninsula, the town of Side has an amazing variety of historic and natural attractions for you to enjoy, with a wide selection of tourist accommodation, shops, late-night bars and restaurants set amongst the ruins of the ancient city. In the centre of town, are the remains of the Roman baths and the magnificent 2nd-century theatre with stunning views towards the sea.  Streets that lead down to the sea are full of activity, with an abundance of souvenir shops selling Turkish handicrafts like carpets, jewellery, leather goods and delicious Turkish delight.
During the last two weeks in September, Side hosts a festival of culture & art in the Amphitheatre. This is extremely popular so you should book your tickets in advance.

A short distance from Side is the town of Manavgat, where you will find a wide range of shops and local markets. The Manavgat river boasts many beautiful areas along its’ banks, the waterfalls are not high but make up for that with a spectacular setting.

Mosques are generally open to the public, except when there is a service in progress.   If you wish to visit one, remember you must take off your shoes and wear modest clothing ( if you’re wearing a short skirt / shorts you will be either turned away or provided with a more fitting garment.)  Remember this is a house of worship.

Beaches -

Side has two beautiful golden beaches, one on the east which runs virtually uninterrupted from Side to Alanya, some 50kms away or the west beach which is very safe & shallow and very popular. Both beaches offer many sporting facilities like waterskiing, diving, fishing etc.. but if you prefer some peace and quiet, walk a little further and the crowds will thin out and you will find yourself in one of the nicest turtle beaches in the whole Mediterranean.
